| USAR FIRST RESPONDER PROGRAMME - Pilot Course | |||
The 4-day USAR First Responder Instructor Course, designed by the INSARAG Training Working Group (TWG) is intended to be used as a foundation for capacity building in disaster prone countries. This course is targeted at the local responders from the emergency services and local community responders and offers them an organised approach to disaster response, with education provided in the fields of rapid assessment, surface rescue, and initial medical care. The course shall be conducted at the Civil Defence Academy (CDA), Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF). The course will be funded by Technisches Hilfswerk (THW, German government disaster relief organisation). THW will also be sponsoring all participants on the travelling, accommodation and meals expenses for the entire course duration. |

Course Aims |

| The course aims to be used as a foundation for capacity building in disaster prone countries. The course offers a local community an organised approach to disaster response, with education provided primarily in the fields of rapid assessment, surface rescue, and initial medical care. The course will also allow trained participants to augment existing local response authorities during the initial operations following a sudden onset disaster. |

| Applications | |||
The Pilot Course, which will be conducted from the 2nd to the 5th of December 2008, is being offered to suitable applicants through the offices of the ASEAN Secretariat. To ensure future interaction within training programs from the nominated countries, each participant must be an instructor based at a training centre in their country. This will facilitate the introduction of a capacity building programme within each country. Participants should also have first aid awareness. |
